Leadership in the COVID- 19 pandemic

During the pandemic COVID-19Dr. León Escobar was at the first line of care in ICU, facing one of the most demanding periods of contemporary medicine. In this context, he attended to more than 60 critical patients, accompanying not only complex clinical processes, but also deeply difficult human decisions.

His work was recognized by the newspaper El País de Caliwho highlighted his testimony to the emotional burden and responsibility that involves communicating critical decisions such as intubation, always highlighting hope and commitment to life.

This experience further marked his medical approach: a technical medicine, yes, but always empathic, clear and closeespecially in times of uncertainty.

Teaching and training vocation

Parallel to his care work, Dr. León Escobar has maintained a strong academic vocation. It's been Professor of Internal Medicine I and II at the Pontifical Javeriana University of Cali, accompanying the training of undergraduate students in both clinical and academic scenarios.

His teaching approach has focused on:

  • Clinical reasoning

  • The proper medical-patient relationship

  • The critical reading of scientific literature

  • Ethical and responsible decision-making in medical practice

For him, training competent doctors is a natural extension of his commitment to community health.

Much of his professional life has been dedicated to the care of critical patientleading diagnostic, treatment, clinical monitoring and complex decision-making processes in high-pressure medical contexts.

In these scenarios, their role has been key in the stabilization, recovery and reintegration of patients to their family, work and social environment, always with an integral view of the health-disease process.
